I work with figurative textile art
Exploring human presence, connection and the many ways we meet the world through our bodies. I have always been drawn to the details that easily escape our attention: a gesture, an everyday object, a fleeting moment or the small acts through which we care for one another. I am particularly drawn to the ordinary gestures that make up our lives: holding, carrying, reaching, giving, receiving and caring. Small actions that can easily go unnoticed, yet hold something deeply human.
Hands have become a powerful language for exploring this. They create, hold, protect, care, reach out and let go. By focusing on hands rather than faces, I move away from the story of a particular person and towards something more universal. The hand becomes a point of recognition, allowing the viewer to bring their own experiences, relationships and memories into the work.
My works are created through textile collage, layering and dense machine stitching. Thread becomes drawing, structure and rhythm, building the image stitch by stitch and turning fabric into a tactile, physical surface. I am interested in textile not simply as a technique, but as an artistic material with its own ability to create depth, texture, transparency and a sense of presence.
Colour is an essential part of my visual language. I work boldly with colour and, in many works, with glitter textiles. Glitter is not there simply for decoration. It is a conscious gesture, a way of celebrating the everyday and insisting that ordinary moments, human connection and life itself are worth noticing.
My works often develop in series, allowing me to return to gestures and everyday actions from different perspectives. Through the hand, I explore the places where life becomes tangible: in what we hold, what we create, what we give, and in the ways we connect with one another.
At the heart of my practice is a lifelong fascination with paying attention. I believe our lives are lived in moments, and that we too often rush past them while looking backwards or forwards. My work is an invitation to pause, look a little longer and notice what is already there.
I don't want to tell people how to live. I want to create a moment in which they notice that they are alive.
Sometimes art doesn't need to change the world. Sometimes it is enough to change a moment.
